A delegation led by Aktam Khaitov, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Political Council of the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP), met with Alisher Abdusalomov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Korea, in Seoul. The parties discussed the role of the party and the embassy in implementing agreements reached by the leaders of the two countries, as well as expanding interparty ties.

Particular attention was paid to involving small and medium-sized businesses in joint projects and helping regional producers gain access to the Korean market. In this regard, the parties explored opportunities to establish direct contacts between entrepreneurs from the two countries through the Korea Desk and the Uzbekistan – Korea Business Council.

As noted during the meeting, Korean investment in Uzbekistan has exceeded $8 billion. Currently, 730 enterprises with Korean capital operate in the country. During the state visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the Republic of Korea in September 2026, 13 documents were signed and a portfolio of prospective projects worth nearly $12 billion was formed. An $8 billion strategic cooperation program was also adopted with the Export-Import Bank of Korea.

The discussions also highlighted the significance of the Seoul Declaration adopted at the first Central Asia – Republic of Korea Summit. The year 2027 will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. To mark the occasion, an agreement has been reached to designate 2027 as the Year of Culture and Exchanges.

Following the meeting, it was emphasized that strengthening cooperation between UzLiDeP and the embassy would help implement agreements reached at the highest level across Uzbekistan’s regions. Priority was given to assisting local entrepreneurs in finding partners in Korea, participating in joint projects and bringing their products to the Korean market.
